Up to 200 new jobs are on their way to Derbyshire after a company which specialises in transporting perishable and chilled goods confirmed it will be opening a new base in the county.
Supply chain specialist Gist Limited, has said it will be taking space at the Markham Vale business park, which is just off 29A of the M1, near Chesterfield.
Work has already started on the firm’s new bespoke, high-specification chilled warehouse and storage facility. The building, which will be just under 91,000 sq ft, is due to be completed by September.
Gist manages the supply chains for a wide range of customers in the commercial and industrial sectors. It currently employs 5,000 people across more than 40 sites throughout the UK and Europe.
Markham Vale is a regeneration scheme which is being jointly led by Derbyshire County Council and Henry Boot Developments.
Alan Devine, managing director of network businesses at Gist, said: “We’re happy to be working with Derbyshire County Council and Henry Boot on the development of this important new extension to our national food logistics network, on time and on budget.
“Our new centre will significantly increase our ability to bring great service to our customers.”
Its warehouse is being built on the northern part of Markham Vale and once complete, Gist will join other companies at the site, which are Ferdinand Bilstein UK and Great Bear Distribution.
