The opening date of a new Aldi supermarket in Derby has been revealed.
Construction work is nearing completion and the store – on land off Normanton Road and Burton Road – is due to open on Thursday, February 22.
The discount chain is building the shop at College Retail Park – a new development on the former Mackworth College site between Normanton Road and Burton Road.
Aldi has signed up to take over a 15,000 sq ft store at the development. Other retailers that are taking space are greetings card retailer The Card Factory, tanning business Indigo Sun and bakery chain Greggs.

An Aldi spokeswoman said: “Work is progressing well and we hope to open our store at College Retail Park, in Burton Road, on February 22.”

Last October, Aldi also received planning permission for another Derby store when South Derbyshire District Council gave the go-ahead for a new outlet off Swarkestone Road, Chellaston. Like the store at the College Retail Park, it will create up to 40 jobs.
In recent years, Aldi has opened a number of new stores across Derby and Derbyshire. It has also been busy revamping existing outlets.

In Derby, Aldi now has stores in Uttoxeter New Road, the Meteor Retail Park, Nottingham Road, Chaddesden, and Coleman Street, Alvaston. Outside Derby, Aldi has opened stores at Hilton, Belper, Heanor, Ilkeston, Alfreton and Swadlincote.
Locally, it is also building a massive distribution centre at Sawley Crossroads, near Sawley, that could create up to 1,000 jobs. The 600,000 sq ft centre will serve existing and planned new stores throughout the Midlands.
