Food delivery service Deliveroo is looking for more riders in Derby after seeing demand for its services in the city rocket by more than 300% over the past year.
The company, which enables customers to have restaurant meals at home or work, first launched in Derby in September, 2015 after partnering with a string of city restaurants including Anoki, The Distillery and ASK Italian.
It recruited a team of riders to help transport orders from the restaurants to customers.
But now Deliveroo has said it needs to take on even more staff due to the popularity of its service in Derby, among both restaurants and customers.
Today, 93 restaurants in Derby have signed up to Deliveroo – up from 18 a year ago. And its number of riders in the city has also grown from 52 to 159.
Now, it is looking to grow that number beyond 200 by adding an extra 50 to its Derby team.
The firm said as well directly creating jobs it is also having a positive knock-on effect on restaurants who use Deliveroo, who have seen takings boosted by 30% on average. The firm said this is leading to the restaurants taking on more staff and expand.
Deliveroo said that its riders work flexible hours and are paid £9.50 an hour.
Dan Warne, Deliveroo’s UK managing director, said: “Deliveroo is proud to be experiencing rapid growth in Derby.
“The more we grow the more this means customers have increased choice, restaurants are able to increase their revenue and riders have the opportunity to choose well-paid, flexible work.
Deliveroo riders deliver restaurant food to homes and workplaces across the city
“Greater growth and new innovations means more restaurants will be able to deliver their food direct to people’s homes or offices and there will be more work available for people who want to be riders and fit their work around their life rather than trying to fit life around their work.
“Now, right across Derby, we are looking for more riders to join us as we grow.”

Deliveroo was originally founded in London in 2013. The idea took off and the firm quickly expanded, offering the service in other parts of the country.
The service allows customers to order food from restaurants signed up to Deliveroo within a 2.6km radius. They can then track its delivery via a mobile phone app.

The user chooses which restaurant they want to order from and is able to select from a menu by clicking on a dish.
The order is then sent to the restaurant, the food is cooked, and before it is ready, the chef alerts Deliveroo, which sends a driver/rider.
