A special mattress made in Castle Donington whose inventor claims it can help everyone get a good night’s sleep has been given a ringing endorsement by consumer giant Which?.
The mattress, known as Emma, was launched in the UK earlier this year – and now it has been awarded a coveted Which? Best Buy endorsement after undergoing a series of rigorous tests.
The product, which can be bought online, is the brainchild of German entrepreneur Max Laarman, who claims the technology used in his mattresses helps everyone – particularly those who have trouble getting to sleep – enjoy a restful night.
He describes it as a “one size fits all” mattress that adapts to people’s weight and build.
Each mattress contains “a decompressing hypersoft-layer, pressure-relieving pocket springs, visco-elastic memory foam and a supporting layer of cold foam”.

After ordering online, the mattress, which comes with a 10-year guarantee, is posted to the customer, free of charge, in a box. They can have it on trial for 100 days and if they are not satisfied can send it back free of charge – and receive a full refund.
Before introducing it to the UK market, Mr Laarmann’s mattress had proven a popular buy in a number of European countries, including Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland and France, where they have sold more than 40,000.
Every year, Which? tests thousands of products and, based on the results, recommends them to consumers. Only the top scoring products are recognised as a Which? Best Buy.
Which? carried out several tests on the Emma mattress, including simulating 10 years of use. They got people with different body types to test each mattress.

They also put each mattress through a wide range of lab tests, checks and measurements. According to Which?, the Emma mattress scored highly in these tests.
It said: “This is one of the most durable mattresses we’ve tested. Even after years of use, it won’t sag, soften or become less supportive. So, if you like the feel of it when new, you can sleep safe in the knowledge that you still will in years to come.”
Marc-Rene Simon, head of international at Emma Mattress, said: “I’m delighted and excited to receive this great news that Emma Mattress has been awarded with the coveted ‘Which? Best Buy’ surpassing many of its competitors on overall performance.
“Emma mattress has received similar awards and endorsements in France and the Netherlands so we are really happy that this is happening in the UK.”
Max Laarmann, founder of Emma Mattress, said: “Emma was created because I had a terrible time trying to purchase a mattress and I wanted to make the process simple while providing a quality product which does what it says on the label: improve everyone’s sleep. It’s rewarding to have been acknowledged by Which?.”
