Budding Dr Doolittles are being sought to join the animal care team team at the RSPCA’s shelter in Abbey Street.
The Derby and District branch of the charity has launched a search for a care assistant to provide help and support for animals and their owners.
The work of the charity, which is mainly reliant on donations from the public and other funding sources, is invaluable to the lives of many pets and wild animals that may have suffered from cruelty and neglect.
The Abbey Street shelter rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes animals. Last year alone it found new homes for more than 900 creatures.
According to the charity’s website, full- and part-time positions are available. The salary is £7.50 an hour or the National Minimum Wage.
In an advert on the charity’s website, it said: “This vacancy focuses on animal care and is an opportunity for a caring, conscientious, resilient and organised individual to become part of our animal care team.
Last year the RSPCA’s shelter in Abbey Street successfully re-homed more than 900 animals
“However, this means not only feeding and medicating the animals, helping with veterinary visits, but also cleaning and making the accommodation comfortable. It is also a key part of the role to exercise, train and enrich the lives of the animals whilst they stay with us.
“Also good people skills are essential as part of our commitment to customer care.”

The charity said: “We are a close-knit but hardworking team, who all share our passion for animals and have high standards, and would welcome someone who shares the same goals to work alongside us.”
